Victoria Falls tourism secures $66.9 million infrastructure deal, hotel ownership changes

The Zimbabwean government has signed a US$66.9 million Commercial Joint Venture Agreement to develop world‑class tourism infrastructure at Victoria Falls. The plan includes bulk utilities such as water, sewer, electricity and telecommunications, as well as hotels, villas, a golf estate, a multi‑purpose cricket stadium and a tourism academy. Deputy Minister of Tourism Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa said the project will boost tourist experiences and drive inclusive economic growth.

Separately, Meikles Limited has sold its 50 % stake in the partnership that operates the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel to joint‑venture partner African Sun Limited, ending Meikles’ involvement in Zimbabwe’s hospitality sector. The sale will allow Meikles to focus on its retail businesses, notably its majority share in Pick n Pay Zimbabwe. African Sun now has full operational control of the heritage hotel, consolidating its position in the country’s tourism industry.
