Zimbabwe tourism and infrastructure development

Overview

Zimbabwe has initiated several projects to advance national infrastructure and tourism. A US$66.9 million Commercial Joint Venture Agreement was signed to develop the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls. This public-private partnership between the Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company and Victoria Seven Investments aims to build essential utilities, including water, sewer, electricity, and telecommunications, alongside hotels, a golf estate, and a tourism academy.

The development plan also includes the construction of an international multi-purpose cricket stadium. To support such modernization efforts, the government has suspended customs duties on specialized sports imports and stadium equipment under Statutory Instrument 142 of 2026.

In the hospitality sector, Meikles Limited has exited its involvement in Zimbabwe’s hospitality industry by selling its 50% stake in the partnership operating the Victoria Falls Hotel to African Sun Limited. This sale allows Meikles to focus on retail businesses, while African Sun gains full operational control of the heritage hotel.
