Vielha Tunnel hosts emergency response drill
Emergency services conducted a large-scale simulation in the Vielha Joan Carles I tunnel (N-230) to test the infrastructure's Self-Protection Plan (PAU). The exercise simulated a vehicle accident followed by a fire involving two occupants, creating conditions of reduced visibility due to smoke.
The drill evaluated the coordination between various agencies, including the Aran Firefighters, Civil Protection of the Generalitat, Mossos d'Esquadra, and the Medical Emergency System (SEM). Since 2023, the Aran Firefighters have held responsibility for emergency management throughout the Aran territory, and during this exercise, they activated level 4 responsibility.
Participants tested notification protocols, mobilization, information exchange, and the functionality of the tunnel's safety and prevention installations. The simulation also assessed the impact of firefighting efforts on the surrounding natural environment.
