Vienna: German man arrested after knife-point robbery attempt

A 70-year-old German man has been arrested following an attempted robbery at an optician on Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna. The suspect allegedly attempted to leave the shop with three pairs of sunglasses valued at approximately 500 euros after offering only a five-euro note for the purchase.

During the incident, the man reportedly brandished a folding knife, threatening an employee when they attempted to stop him. Police apprehended the suspect a short distance from the scene. Upon searching the individual, officers recovered the stolen sunglasses, two folding knives, and approximately 40 grams of suspected cannabis resin.

The suspect, who does not have a registered residence in Austria, has been transferred to a judicial institution by order of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office. He faces charges related to robbery and narcotics violations.
