Robbery and assault incidents in Vienna

Overview

A series of robberies and assaults occurred in Vienna during late August 2026.

On August 23, a 67-year-old taxi driver was assaulted and robbed in the Floridsdorf district. The victim was struck in the head and threatened with an object resembling a firearm. In a related incident that same day in Donaustadt, a man was threatened with a knife during a robbery of an electric scooter; a 21-year-old suspect was apprehended by police.

On August 27, a 70-year-old German national was arrested following an attempted robbery at an optician on Mariahilfer Straße. The suspect allegedly brandished a folding knife while attempting to steal sunglasses. Police recovered the stolen items, two knives, and suspected cannabis resin during the arrest.
