Vienna launches construction of 28th municipal housing project in Donaustadt

The city of Vienna broke ground on the 28th municipal housing complex in the Donaustadt district. The new development on Melangasse 1A will ultimately provide around 320 affordable apartments, with the first phase delivering 114 units that are slated for completion by autumn 2029.

The buildings will include one‑ to four‑room flats with private outdoor spaces, green inner courtyards (“Green Pockets”) to improve micro‑climate, community rooms, a ground‑floor shop and extensive bicycle parking. A underground garage with 66 spaces and a larger district garage with up to 626 car spaces will also serve the site. City councilor Elke Hanel‑Torsch (SPÖ) and district head Ernst Nevrivy (SPÖ) presented the project as a major step in expanding social housing and enhancing the neighbourhood’s infrastructure.
