Vienna police raid apartment following suspected gunshot

Police in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district of Vienna conducted a raid on a residential apartment following reports of a loud bang suspected to be a gunshot. The incident began when a witness reported hearing a loud noise and observed a man acting suspiciously at a window.

Special unit WEGA forcibly entered the apartment after the occupant, a 31-year-old Russian national, claimed he could not open the door because he lacked a key. Inside, officers discovered a small amount of ammunition, pepper spray, and a spent shell casing. Investigators also noted that the door lock appeared heavily deformed, suggesting it may have been struck by a shot.

A subsequent search ordered by the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office did not uncover a firearm. The man was briefly detained but has since been released and reported to the authorities. He declined to comment on the allegations during questioning.
