Vienna S-Bahn and airport services disrupted by cable fire

A cable fire discovered around 1:30 AM near the Praterstern station in Vienna has caused significant disruptions to the S-Bahn network and airport transit services. The fire resulted in heavy damage, with ÖBB reporting that approximately 20 kilometers of cable must be replaced.

Major service interruptions include the suspension of train traffic between Wien Praterstern and Quartier Belvedere, as well as on the S7 line between Wien Mitte and Geiselbergstraße. The City Airport Train (CAT) is also unable to operate, though a replacement rail service has been established between Wien Mitte and Vienna Airport for CAT ticket holders.

Replacement bus services have been implemented for the S7 line. For the section between Praterstern and Quartier Belvedere, passengers are advised to use Wiener Linien services, as ÖBB tickets are being honored on those lines. Long-distance services between Vienna Main Station and Vienna Airport remain unaffected.
