Vietnam 2026 university admissions push students to pick majors by passion

At the opening of the 2026 university and college admissions fair in Hanoi, Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Training, urged applicants to focus on their abilities, interests and long‑term goals rather than solely on test scores or popular fields. He highlighted that while high marks can open doors, sustained success depends on perseverance, adaptability and genuine motivation.

The guidance also clarified the distinction between broad study areas, specific majors, future occupations and individual job titles. Experts advised students to assess their academic strengths, the skill requirements of chosen fields—such as mathematics for finance or programming for AI—and the evolving impact of technologies like artificial intelligence on the labour market. Choosing a field that aligns with personal passion and societal needs is presented as essential for both personal fulfillment and future employability.
