Vietnam accelerates North-South Expressway rest stop development

The Vietnam Road Administration is accelerating the completion of 28 rest stops and parking areas along the North-South Expressway East route. The goal is to have these facilities operational to serve travelers, particularly during peak periods such as the September 2 National Day holiday. These stations are intended to improve traffic safety by preventing unauthorized stopping and parking on the expressway.

Currently, seven stations are already in operation across various sections, including Hanoi-Bac Giang and Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay. An additional 19 stations under the management of the Ministry of Construction are being developed across multiple provinces. On average, a rest stop is expected every 75km to assist long-distance drivers.

However, officials have noted delays in certain projects. The Vietnam Road Administration issued warnings to project management boards and investors, including the Petrolimex consortium, regarding slow progress at several sites in Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa provinces. Inspections revealed that construction of access roads, lighting, and essential public services has not met required deadlines. Authorities have urged investors to increase management efforts to overcome difficulties and meet upcoming completion milestones.
