Vietnam addresses AI integration in education and governance
Vietnam is addressing the rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across education and governance. At the AI4EDU 2026 workshop organized by Hanoi Metropolitan University, experts noted that 64% of Vietnamese teachers have utilized AI in their work, significantly higher than the OECD average of 36%. Most teachers use the technology for lesson planning, summarizing topics, and supporting student skill practice. However, challenges remain, with many educators citing a lack of technical knowledge and insufficient infrastructure.
As AI evolves from predictive systems to Agentic AI—capable of reasoning, planning, and executing tasks—experts suggest the role of teachers must shift from knowledge transmitters to mentors and facilitators. The goal is to maintain a human-centric approach where AI serves human needs.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Science and Technology is focusing on the legal and ethical frameworks for AI. During a training conference on AI laws, Deputy Minister Tran Trung Tinh emphasized that while AI offers significant opportunities for public sector efficiency and national governance, it also presents risks regarding data reliability, security, and transparency. The government aims to balance the promotion of AI development with responsible management to ensure safety and accountability.
