Vietnam adopts Decree 267/2026 on disciplinary actions for officials causing waste

The Vietnamese Government issued Decree No. 267/2026, detailing disciplinary measures and compensation for public officials who cause waste of state resources. The decree specifies penalties based on the amount of loss: a reprimand for first‑time violations causing 2‑50 million VND, a warning for losses of 50‑75 million VND, dismissal for repeat offenses or losses exceeding 75 million VND, and termination of employment for severe cases. It also sets sanctions for leaders who neglect oversight, ranging from reprimand to dismissal depending on the severity of the associated criminal penalty. Additional provisions address misconduct during audits, investigations, and complaints related to waste prevention, prescribing reprimands and warnings for officials who obstruct or fail to cooperate.

The decree aims to strengthen accountability in agencies responsible for anti‑waste initiatives and to ensure that officials who cause significant financial loss are subject to proportionate disciplinary action.
