Vietnam adopts national digital transformation strategy for 2026‑2030

Vietnam's government approved a National Digital Transformation Strategy for 2026‑2030, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung on July 14 under Decision No. 1266/QD‑TTg. The plan sets out a vision to 2045 for a prosperous, secure and human‑centred digital nation, with a unified data ecosystem, strong AI capabilities and protection of digital sovereignty.

Key objectives include fully digitising administrative records by 2030, delivering online public services that achieve 99 % citizen satisfaction, and linking all government information systems through shared data platforms. The strategy calls for standardised, interoperable databases at national, sectoral and provincial levels, AI‑assisted decision‑making in smart operation centres, and digital‑skills training for all civil servants. It also targets the development of a data‑driven economy, the establishment of a domestic data industry, and strict safeguards for personal data.

Beyond government, the strategy is prompting religious organisations and cultural agencies to move activities online. Buddhist, Catholic and Protestant groups are expanding their presence on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and TikTok, while Vietnam's cultural diplomacy is embracing AI, big data, virtual and augmented reality to promote the nation’s heritage internationally.
