Vietnam advances AI integration for smart city management
Experts and authorities in Vietnam are discussing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into smart city infrastructure, focusing on the need for standardized safety and ethical frameworks. A recent workshop highlighted that while AI can optimize urban operations, forecasting, and essential services, it necessitates rigorous standards for data quality, privacy, transparency, and accountability. Specific discussions addressed the standardization of AI in intelligent transport systems and the application of AI in elevator operations to monitor safety and reduce waiting times.
In practical application, local authorities in Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung Ward are utilizing an extensive network of approximately 655 AI-powered surveillance cameras to maintain urban aesthetics and order. The system automatically identifies violations such as illegal dumping, sidewalk encroachment, and unauthorized advertising. These technological tools allow police to respond quickly to infractions, sometimes resulting in community service penalties for those caught violating urban cleanliness regulations.
