Vietnam advances expressway management and smart transport projects

Vietnam is advancing several infrastructure and traffic management initiatives for its expressway networks. The Vietnam Road Administration has requested the Road Management Area IV to study a pilot program for lane-based traffic organization on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway. This proposal, initiated by the Traffic Police Department, aims to introduce dedicated overtaking lanes and prohibit crossing into opposing lanes to improve safety and operational efficiency. A pilot period of approximately three months is envisioned.

Separately, the Ministry of Construction has urged Dong Thap Province to adjust the Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway (Phase 1) project to include Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) capabilities. The Ministry expressed concern that current proposals might delay these critical components, potentially preventing toll collection immediately upon the project's completion. The goal is to ensure that smart management and automated tolling systems are fully integrated and operational as soon as the first phase of the expressway is opened to traffic.
