Vietnam advances green transport with electric scooter incentives and upcoming SAF rules

Honda Vietnam announced a large‑scale commercial rollout of its electric scooter line, offering a free 7‑day home trial for the CUV e model from June 4 and the premium UC3 model from July. The company is also providing price reductions of up to 22 million VND, a three‑year vehicle warranty, a two‑year battery warranty and optional buy‑back schemes. To support users, Honda is expanding a network of battery‑swap stations and fast‑charging hubs at authorized dealers across major cities.

Separately, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has mandated that airlines worldwide must adopt carbon‑reduction measures by 2027, with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) identified as a key solution. Vietnam is preparing its legal framework for SAF, revising existing fuel regulations and planning domestic production at the Nghi Sơn refinery. The first SAF‑fuelled flights took place in October 2024, and commercial supply is expected by mid‑2025. However, SAF remains costly—about two to three times traditional jet fuel—raising concerns for airlines such as Vietnam Airlines.
