Hanoi authorities have launched a series of emergency drainage works, completing ten projects—including five reservoirs and five upgrades to existing channels—before the 2026 rainy season. The new facilities have cut flood depth and duration in historically problem areas such as Võ Chí Công, Mỹ Đình and Ciputra, with water receding faster than before.

Construction of the Hồng Hà bridge on the Ring Road 4 is about 40% complete; pier foundations are 78% finished and the project targets a July 2027 opening. Meanwhile, the Ngọc Hồi bridge, a 12 000‑billion‑VND investment spanning roughly 7.5 km of the Red River, has finished pile‑drilling for its main towers and is expected to relieve traffic on existing river crossings once operational.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has also put forward plans for three water‑regulation dams on the Red River, Đuống River and Đà River. The dams are intended to control flow, sustain water levels during dry periods and support agriculture, water supply and navigation while preserving flood‑control safety.

Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen Hanoi’s resilience to extreme weather and improve connectivity with neighboring provinces.
