Vietnam advances Red River projects: Ngoc Hoi bridge construction and new dam proposals

Construction of the Ngoc Hoi bridge, a major 7.5‑km link across the Red River connecting Hanoi and Hung Yen, is progressing steadily after nearly a year of work. With an investment of about 12 000 billion VND, the main span of roughly 680 m and six vehicular lanes plus two mixed‑traffic lanes are nearing completion as pier piles have been installed and foundation work continues on both banks. Land acquisition is finished in Hanoi and more than half of the required area in Hung Yen has been handed over for the project.

Separately, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed building three floating dams on the Red River, Duong River and Da River. The dams aim to regulate water flow during dry periods, support agriculture, improve navigation and tourism, and enhance water supply for the Hanoi region without compromising flood‑control safety. The proposals align with national water‑resource plans for 2021‑2030 and the 2050 vision approved by the Prime Minister.
