Vietnam Advances Search for War Hero Remains in Quang Tri Province

The Economic‑Defense Corps 337’s Search Team in Quang Tri Province has recovered eight additional war‑hero remains after intensive field work in the Cha Lý mountain pass and neighboring sites. The operation, part of the “500‑day night” campaign, brings the total recovered during the 2025‑2026 dry season to 151 bodies, including 123 from Quang Tri and 28 from Laos. Two of the remains have been positively identified. Parallel DNA sampling efforts have collected genetic material from 29 newly exhumed bodies and 1,402 unidentified graves, aiming to match over 22,000 unknown war‑dead graves with relatives’ DNA.

The campaign also includes extensive documentation, with local teams meticulously excavating each soil parcel and coordinating with health, police and administrative agencies. The initiative reflects a broader push to resolve the status of Vietnam’s war casualties and to honour the families of those who fought.
