Vietnam advances transport digitalization and addresses logistics challenges

Vietnam is advancing digital transformation in its road transport sector to improve management efficiency and reduce administrative burdens. The Vietnam Road Administration is tasked with synchronizing data regarding transport business licenses and cross-border transport permits by October 30, 2026. This initiative aims to transition from paper-based records to a shared digital platform, allowing businesses and citizens to complete procedures online without physical visits, thereby reducing costs and time.

Simultaneously, the logistics sector faces challenges regarding rising maritime freight costs. The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has reported significant increases in shipping rates to the US and Europe, which negatively impact the competitiveness of Vietnamese seafood exports. In response, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is implementing a logistics development strategy for 2025–2035, focusing on infrastructure improvement, reducing logistics cost ratios, and exploring mechanisms to support the development of domestic container fleets to reduce reliance on foreign shipping lines.
