Vietnam health ministry launches guidelines for adults 40+ to prepare for aging
Vietnam's Ministry of Health is seeking public feedback on draft guidelines for the first phase of the National Target Program on Health Care, Population and Development (2026‑2035). The proposal targets people aged 40‑60, encouraging early adoption of healthy lifestyles, regular physical activity, caregiving skills, financial planning and suitable employment before retirement. It calls for the creation of educational materials, community‑club outreach, media campaigns across newspapers, radio, TV and digital platforms, and training for health and population officials to provide counseling on healthy aging.
Vietnamese media are also highlighting related health measures for middle‑aged adults. One article promotes low‑GI (low glycemic index) foods such as whole‑grain rice, oats, beans and sweet potatoes to aid weight control, stabilize blood sugar and reduce cardiovascular risk. Another piece advises people in their 50s‑60s to build financial reserves and health safeguards to avoid dependence in later life. A further report stresses the importance of correctly diagnosing perimenopausal and menopausal disorders to preserve quality of life for women in their mid‑40s to mid‑50s.
Together, these initiatives aim to equip Vietnam’s aging population with the knowledge, habits and resources needed for a healthier, more independent old age.
