Vietnam aims to be a strategic gateway in expanding ASEAN‑Russia cooperation

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung addressed the ASEAN‑Russia Business Forum in Kazan, calling for deeper collaboration on resilient supply chains, energy security and digital innovation. He urged the development of transport links linking Russia’s Far East with Southeast Asia and highlighted opportunities in clean energy, LNG, hydrogen, offshore wind and technology cooperation such as AI, cybersecurity and digital health.

Expert Dr Arisman noted that both Vietnam and Indonesia are well‑positioned to serve as strategic gateways between ASEAN and Russia. He cited Vietnam’s free‑trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union as a bridge for logistics, infrastructure and production, and pointed to joint prospects in green‑energy projects and digital services. The discussions were part of the 35th‑anniversary ASEAN‑Russia summit, which adopted a 2026‑2030 Plan of Action and the Kazan Declaration to guide future cooperation.

The partnership seeks to diversify energy supplies, strengthen food security, expand trade and investment, and improve connectivity across the region. Vietnam expressed readiness to facilitate these ties and act as a conduit for Russian enterprises in the emerging digital and clean‑energy markets.
