Vietnam aims to become ASEAN leader in foreign investment and digital tech by 2030

Vietnam’s government has issued Decision 840/QD‑TTg to transform the digital technology sector into a modern, internationally competitive industry by 2030, targeting key and strategic technologies to support national challenges and double‑digit economic growth. The Political Bureau’s Resolution No. 10‑NQ/TW, adopted on 8 June 2026, sets a broader goal of placing Vietnam among the top ASEAN economies in investment climate, competitiveness, innovation, public‑service quality and the ability to attract high‑quality foreign projects. The plan foresees foreign‑direct investment accounting for 30 % of GDP by 2045, with an aim to draw $200‑$300 billion in new capital. In the first half of 2026, Vietnam recorded a 27.1 % rise in total trade, a 61 % increase in registered FDI to $346.5 billion, and an actual inflow of $130.3 billion, the strongest in five years. The initiatives are part of a wider push to boost the digital economy, improve public administration and support high‑growth sectors.
