Vietnam airfares surge ahead of September 2 holiday
Airfares for the upcoming September 2 holiday in Vietnam have seen a significant surge, with some domestic routes nearly doubling in price compared to regular days. Surveys conducted on August 11 show that the Hanoi - Da Nang route has experienced the most dramatic increase, with prices currently exceeding those of the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route.
On the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, round-trip tickets for late August to early September range from approximately 3.4 million VND to 4.1 million VND depending on the airline. In contrast, the Hanoi - Da Nang route is seeing higher costs, with prices from various carriers reaching between 3.7 million and 4.2 million VND. This represents a nearly twofold increase from current standard rates and an increase of approximately 1.5 million VND compared to the same period last year.
Industry representatives attribute the price hikes to high seasonal demand for coastal destinations like Da Nang. Airlines noted that while demand is rising, the number of flights on certain routes has not been increased proportionally, leading to a supply-demand imbalance that triggers automatic price adjustments in online booking systems.
