Vietnam domestic airfare increases
Overview
Domestic airfares in Vietnam have experienced a significant surge ahead of the September 2 National Day holiday. Early reports indicated that ticket prices on major routes, such as Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, nearly doubled within a week as travel demand increased.
By mid-August, price hikes continued to impact various domestic routes. The Hanoi to Da Nang route saw particularly dramatic increases, with costs exceeding those of the Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City route. Round-trip tickets for the holiday period reached between 3.4 million and 4.2 million VND, representing a nearly twofold increase from standard rates and a rise of approximately 1.5 million VND compared to the previous year.
Industry representatives attributed these increases to high seasonal demand for coastal destinations. Airlines noted that a supply-demand imbalance, caused by flight numbers not increasing proportionally to rising demand, has triggered automatic price adjustments in online booking systems.
