Vietnam Airlines' cabin‑baggage policy allows a total of 12 kg of hand luggage, but it must be split into a main piece not exceeding 10 kg plus a smaller personal item. Many travelers pack the full weight into a single bag, assuming they are within the overall limit. At check‑in counters and boarding gates, staff flag main bags over 10 kg as non‑compliant and require passengers to check the item, charging a fee that can reach VND 600,000 on the spot.

The airline advises passengers to verify the weight and dimensions of each bag before arriving at the airport, to purchase additional checked‑baggage allowance online at least six hours in advance, and to use the VNeID electronic ID for faster processing through security and boarding.
