Vietnam and Australia Expand Development Partnership to Support 10% Growth Goal

Vietnam's Finance Minister Ngô Văn Tuấn met Australian International Development Minister Anne Aly in Hanoi, urging Australia to speed up investment and raise its official development assistance. Australia pledged about A$98.3 million (US$63.8 million) for 2026‑27 to back projects under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on energy, trade, transport, climate action and infrastructure.

The finance minister highlighted Vietnam's aim to sustain annual economic growth above 10 percent to reach upper‑middle‑income status by 2030. Bilateral trade in the first half of the year rose 21.9 percent to $8.2 billion, with Vietnamese exports to Australia up 25.1 percent and imports up 19.1 percent. Both sides called for a new economic development cooperation programme to link private‑sector growth, technology transfer and SME participation.

Parliamentary contacts between Vietnam and Australia were also reaffirmed, underscoring a broader push for deeper legislative ties and coordinated climate‑resilient infrastructure development.
