Vietnam applies 15% global minimum tax to large multinationals
Vietnam is implementing a 15 percent global minimum tax rate for large multinational corporations that previously benefited from preferential tax rates of 5 percent or 10 percent, or other tax deductions. Out of approximately 45,000 foreign-invested projects in the country, about 1,500 have annual revenues exceeding 750 million euros (US$852 million) and are subject to reporting requirements. However, fewer than 200 companies are actually required to make payments under this framework.
In 2025, Vietnam collected approximately 16.5 trillion VND (roughly $625 million) in global minimum tax revenue. Officials noted that these funds contribute to socio-economic development and help offset previous tax incentives.
As the nation enters a new development phase, authorities are shifting focus from the total volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) to the quality and sustainability of such investments. The goal is to improve productivity, economic self-reliance, and long-term value creation through improved tax administration and investment policies.
