Vietnam approves Dong Dang - Lang Son economic zone plan to 2045

The Vietnamese government has approved an adjusted master plan for the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone in Lang Son province, extending the strategic vision to 2045. The economic zone will cover approximately 39,400 hectares and is designed to become a major center for trade, tourism services, and industry in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.

A primary objective of the plan is to transform the area into a national and international logistics and border service hub. It is intended to serve as a critical transport link connecting China with Vietnam and the ASEAN region. The development will integrate border urban growth with national defense and security requirements.

Population projections for the zone suggest it will reach between 235,000 and 240,000 people by 2035, increasing to approximately 295,000 to 300,000 by 2045. Urban and economic land use is expected to expand to roughly 13,200–13,700 hectares by the 2045 target date.
