Vietnam border economic zone development
Overview
Vietnam is advancing strategic plans for several border gate economic zones to enhance regional trade and logistics connectivity.
In Lang Son province, the government approved an adjusted master plan for the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone through 2045. Spanning approximately 39,400 hectares, the zone aims to become a major hub for trade, tourism, and industry, serving as a critical transport link between China, Vietnam, and the ASEAN region. Projections suggest the area's population could reach up to 300,000 by 2045.
Simultaneously, officials are discussing pilot policies for the Moc Bai Border Gate in Tay Ninh province and the Lao Cai International Land Port. Proposals for Moc Bai include the potential establishment of a free trade zone and the implementation of a ‘one-stop, one-stop’ customs clearance model with Cambodia to improve investment attraction and transition toward smart border gates.
