Vietnam's Ministry of Construction revises highway network, adding and adjusting major routes

The Ministry of Construction has approved a revised road‑network plan for the 2021‑2030 period, extending the vision to 2050. Seven existing expressways were adjusted: new segments such as a 44 km, four‑lane Việt Trì‑Hòa Bình section were added to the North‑South West corridor; the Hanoi‑Lào Cai route was shortened at the Kim Thành border; the Hanoi‑Thái Nguyên‑Bắc Kẩn‑Cao Bằng line was extended to meet the Đồng Đăng‑Trà Lĩnh highway; and other routes including the Hanoi ring road, Vũng Áng‑Cha Lo, Phan Rang‑Liên Khương‑Buôn Ma Thuột and the Ho Chi Minh City‑Vĩnh Long‑Cần Thỗ‑Cà Mau corridor were lengthened.

In addition, five new expressways were incorporated, totalling nearly 1,000 km, such as the northern mountain belt road, the central mid‑region belt, the Hà Tĩnh‑Cầu Treo link, the Hué‑A Lười route, and the Phan Thiết‑Bảo Lộc‑Gia Nghiịa‑Bu Prăng line. The overall network will comprise 46 highways covering about 10,100 km by 2050.

Separately, Thái Nguyên province proposed VND 7.787 billion for the 85 km segment of the Ring Road 5 – Capital Region project that passes through the province, part of a larger VND 288.3 billion investment to complete the 349 km ring by 2030.
