Vietnam launches national program to develop AI expertise by 2030

Vietnam has launched a national program to develop artificial intelligence (AI) human resources through 2030, with a long-term vision extending to 2035. Approved by Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu, the initiative aims to establish an integrated AI education system across all levels of schooling.

The program targets the cultivation of at least 50,000 high-level AI professionals, including researchers and engineers, capable of leading strategic technology sectors. Additionally, the government seeks to train 50,000 sector-specific practitioners and ensure that a vast majority of students and workers possess fundamental AI skills, digital thinking, and data safety knowledge.

Parallel to these educational goals, Vietnam’s banking sector is accelerating its transition toward “smart banking.” The State Bank of Vietnam is driving digital transformation to enhance security and efficiency. Recent data shows significant growth in the sector, with cashless payments exceeding 15 billion transactions in the first half of 2026, reflecting a broader national push toward a digital economy and society.
