Vietnam authorities crack down on school zone traffic and illegal parking
Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are intensifying efforts to manage traffic congestion and safety hazards around school gates. In Ho Chi Minh City, police have identified 62 schools where traffic conditions are particularly complex due to parents parking motorcycles on sidewalks and in roadways during drop-off and pick-up hours. Officials noted that 1,549 traffic violations were handled in the first nine months of 2026. To address this, police plan to coordinate with school administrations to arrange designated parking areas and stopping points for parents.
In Hanoi, specifically near Xuan Mai High School, law enforcement is cracking down on unauthorized, spontaneous parking lots operated by local households. These unregulated lots pose significant fire safety risks and contribute to traffic instability. Police officials stated that these illegal services often facilitate student traffic violations by allowing minors to access vehicles easily, undermining school management. Authorities are conducting inspections, issuing warnings, and increasing patrols to eliminate these non-compliant parking sites and enforce helmet and age regulations for student drivers.
