Vietnam authorities demand urgent road repairs and construction safety measures

Authorities in Vietnam are intensifying efforts to address road safety and infrastructure degradation across several major transport projects.

In Ha Tinh province, the provincial People's Committee has requested the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Road Administration to direct Cienco 4 to perform thorough repairs on National Highway 1. The section from south of Ben Thuy Bridge to the north of the old Ha Tinh city bypass has suffered severe deterioration, including potholes and wheel track ruts. While the road has been in operation since 2014 under a BOT contract, local officials noted that previous maintenance efforts have been localized and insufficient to address the damage caused by extreme weather and heavy usage.

Separately, the Vietnam Road Administration has issued urgent directives to ensure safety during the construction of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway. This follows an incident where a vehicle fell into a construction pit. Authorities are demanding that contractors and supervisors strictly implement safety protocols, including the installation of adequate warning signs, barriers, and flashing lights. Construction units will be held responsible for any traffic congestion or safety incidents resulting from failure to comply with road laws and technical standards.
