Vietnam authorities intensify traffic safety enforcement and education

Authorities in Vietnam are intensifying efforts to improve road safety through community engagement and strict enforcement of traffic regulations. In Hai Lang Commune, Quang Ninh, local police are implementing personalized outreach programs to address common violations such as failure to wear helmets, driving against traffic, and underage driving. Given that ethnic minorities comprise over 52% of the population, officers are conducting propaganda in both Vietnamese and local ethnic languages to ensure regulations are understood.

In Bac Ninh province, the Traffic Police Department has identified 385 traffic violations via surveillance systems between August 8 and August 14. The most frequent offenses included running red lights and violating lane markings. Authorities are urging vehicle owners to settle fines promptly under Decree 168. Under the upcoming regulations of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, effective January 1, 2025, penalties for running red lights will increase significantly, with car drivers facing fines between 18 million and 20 million VND and the deduction of driving license points.
