Vietnam authorities prosecute individuals for intellectual property crimes

Authorities in Vietnam have launched criminal proceedings against two individuals for separate intellectual property violations.

In Can Tho, police have prosecuted Pham Van Tan, owner of a local business, for infringing on industrial property rights. During a search of his premises, officials seized 1,520 pairs of counterfeit footwear featuring protected brand names, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Adidas, and Nike. The total value of the illicit goods is estimated at over 200 million VND.

In Quang Ninh, investigators have charged Nguyen Manh Can for violating copyright and related rights. Can allegedly developed and distributed a game titled ‘Truong Hoc Ninja School,’ which copied the gameplay, interface, and characters of the popular online game ‘Ninja School Online.’ By selling in-game items and virtual currency without authorization, Can reportedly generated approximately 2.48 billion VND in illegal profits.
