Vietnam auto market: VinFast sales surge and Chinese car imports rise

VinFast reported first‑quarter 2026 revenue of 23.111 trillion VND (about $920.7 million), a 41.7% increase year‑on‑year. The company delivered 58,577 electric vehicles, a 61% rise, maintaining its lead in the Vietnamese market and expanding sales in India, Indonesia and the Philippines. VinFast now operates 447 global EV showrooms and has signed a strategic partnership with NVIDIA and Autobrains to develop level‑4 robotaxi services for Southeast Asia.

Vietnam’s car imports fell 34% in April 2026 to 16,580 units, yet Chinese‑made vehicles surged, accounting for 6,856 cars and representing a 68.6% year‑on‑year increase. In the first four months of 2026, a total of 23,723 Chinese cars were imported, with about 13 Chinese brands active in the market. Dealers are offering deep discounts and expanding networks to boost sales, while inventory levels remain high.
