Vietnam banking: New fees and digital payment updates

Vietnam's banking sector is seeing updates in service fees and digital payment capabilities. BVBank has announced that starting August 26, 2026, individual customers will be charged a monthly account management fee of 10,000 VND (excluding VAT) if their average monthly balance falls below 500,000 VND. This policy applies to both physical transaction points and the Digimi digital banking platform. New accounts will receive a fee exemption for the first 180 days.

In digital services, the SHB SAHA application has introduced a feature called ‘Sinh lời nhàn tênh,’ which allows users to automatically earn up to 6% annual interest on idle funds above a self-set threshold.

Additionally, VNPAY-QR has expanded its utility by allowing users to make daily purchases using credit card funds directly through their banking apps. The service is currently available at over 600,000 locations nationwide, offering potential cashback and incentives of up to 20% depending on the issuing bank.
