Vietnam banks MSB and Vietcombank implement major digital app migration and large‑transfer policy changes
Maritime Commercial Joint‑Stock Bank (MSB) announced that from 1 June 2026 it will replace its existing mBank app with a new platform called MSB Digital Bank. Customers must download the new app, verify their identity with ID numbers, phone OTP and facial recognition, and set up new security credentials such as a password, PIN and biometric login. The migration can be initiated from within the old app or by installing the new app directly, and typically takes three to five minutes.
Vietcombank said that from 15 May 2026 the automatic “order‑splitting” feature for high‑value transfers will cease on its VCB Digibank app. Transfers of 500 million VND or more will no longer be broken into smaller Napas‑24/7 fast‑payment batches; customers must split the amounts themselves or use the standard interbank channel. The move follows the Central Bank’s Circular 40/2024 and tighter anti‑money‑laundering checks, and similar adjustments have been reported by VPBank, Eximbank and TPBank.
