Vietnam banking and fintech developments (July 2026)
Entities: Techcombank · Vietnam · State Bank of Vietnam · VPBank · Hà Thu Giang
Overview
The fintech surge that began with GLN International’s QR‑payment network in late April continued through July. VPBank’s Cake platform added 1.5 percentage points for new six‑month deposits, taking the rate to 8.9 % APR, while its NEO app lifted online‑savings rates by 0.4 point. SeABank kept its World‑Cup‑linked 8.55 % offer and added a 0.2‑point bonus for newcomers. New reward schemes appeared: NCB launched Sun Signature points, HDBank ran a lottery with gold and savings‑book prizes, and BVBank gifted helmets to fresh savers. PVcomBank maintained a premium 10 % rate for deposits of VND 2 trillion or more. Vietcombank deepened its media‑linked incentives through a daily lucky‑draw tied to the TV show “Quán nhà Haha,” offering backstage tickets, food‑ambassador status, discount codes and a competition‑based extra‑rate for top depositors.
Parallel to these promotions, financial advisers cautioned savers about repeatedly moving funds to chase higher rates. They recommended assessing each deposit’s purpose—emergency fund, down‑payment, education—and warned that frequent shifting adds complexity, especially when some products restrict additional contributions. The advice underscores the growing need for consumers to manage multiple banking apps and align each account with clear financial objectives amid a competitive high‑interest environment.
Adding to the wave of product innovation, VIB Bank launched the VIB Up programme, a mortgage‑loan supplement that grants borrowers a permanent 0.2‑0.4 percentage‑point reduction in interest rates for the life of a 20‑ to 30‑year loan. The one‑time pre‑disbursement registration locks in the lower rate, potentially saving eligible home‑buyers up to about 350 million VND and offering a predictable financing burden across fluctuating household incomes and future expenses such as education and healthcare.
