Vietnam boosts power‑plant efficiency at Mong Duong and deploys 50 MW battery storage in Hanoi

The Mong Duong thermal power plant, operated by EVNGENCO3, has begun implementing the Prime Minister’s Directive 09/CT‑TTg (19 March 2026) aimed at reducing electricity consumption and improving energy efficiency. The plant is reviewing its own power use, optimizing equipment such as medium‑voltage drives, pumps and lighting, and promoting a culture of saving among staff and the surrounding community.

Separately, VinEnergo has commissioned five large‑scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) on the Hanoi grid, covering five 110 kV substations (Bắc Thăng Long, Quang Minh, Sài Đồng 2, Phùng Xá, Thanh Oai). The combined capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh marks the first major BESS deployment in the capital, enhancing load‑balancing, reliability and the integration of renewable sources. Each 10 MW/20 MWh unit consists of four containerised modules equipped with active liquid cooling, advanced battery‑management and fire‑safety systems.
