Vietnam car and pork prices plunge in August as demand wanes

Car manufacturers and dealers in Vietnam launched record‑low discounts for August to clear 2025‑2026 inventory ahead of the low‑demand lunar month. Subaru Forester models imported from Thailand were cut by up to VND 360 million, reaching a sale price of VND 839 million. Hyundai’s Tucson line saw dealer‑specific cuts, with some units priced as low as VND 680 million after reductions of up to VND 163 million. Mazda CX‑5 and Kia Sportage also received price cuts of VND 69 million to VND 50 million respectively, and Mazda introduced a 0 % interest loan option.

At the same time, pork prices continued to fall across the country, dropping about VND 1,000 per kilogram. Hanoi remained the most expensive market at VND 62,000/kg, while provinces in the north, central and south reported prices between VND 59,000 and VND 61,000/kg. Despite the decline, domestic pork remains pricier than regional imports, prompting a 9.6 % rise in imported pork volumes to 494,300 tons (US$1.46 billion) in the first half of 2026, led by supplies from India, the United States, Brazil, Australia and Spain.
