Vietnam car crashes strike motorcyclists in Hanoi and Ninh Binh

On July 4, a car in Hanoi’s Nguyen Chi Thanh street reversed from the sidewalk, accelerated unexpectedly and collided with a motorbike rider before striking another vehicle. The rider landed on his buttocks and escaped serious injury.

A second incident occurred on July 7 in Ninh Binh when a white car ignored a zebra crossing, turned across an oncoming motorbike and knocked the rider down. The condition of the motorcyclist was not reported.

Both accidents involve traffic violations punishable under Vietnam’s Decree 168/2024, which imposes fines of 20‑22 million VND and a ten‑point licence penalty for violations that cause accidents. Road‑safety officials advise drivers to observe mirrors, rear‑view cameras and road markings, and to travel at low speed when reversing or turning.
