Vietnam child safety seat market grows ahead of new traffic penalties

The market for child safety seats in Vietnam is experiencing increased activity ahead of new traffic regulations set to take effect on August 15. Under Decree 238/2026, which amends Decree 168/2024, drivers transporting children under 10 years old and shorter than 1.35 meters without appropriate safety equipment will face warnings. Additionally, allowing a child to sit in the front passenger seat alongside the driver will result in fines ranging from 800,000 to 1,000,000 VND.

Product prices vary significantly, ranging from a few hundred thousand VND to tens of millions of VND. Popular mid-range brands include Joie, Chilux, Gluck, and Zaracos, while premium imported options from Europe and Japan include Combi, Aprica, and Britax.

Concerns have been raised regarding the prevalence of low-cost, unverified safety belts and cushions sold on e-commerce platforms. These makeshift products lack clear origins, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish between genuine safety equipment and items that merely provide postural support. The Vietnam Register noted that certified organizations are responsible for testing and quality certification to ensure compliance.
