Vietnam child car safety regulations and testing

Vietnam is implementing new traffic and quality management regulations regarding child safety equipment in automobiles. Under Decree 238/2026, drivers transporting children under 10 years old and shorter than 1.35 meters without appropriate safety equipment face warnings, while allowing children to sit in the front passenger seat can result in fines between 800,000 and 1,000,000 VND.

In response to these regulatory shifts and concerns over unverified, low-cost products on e-commerce platforms, the Vietnam Register has taken steps to manage product quality. The Vietnam Register has temporarily designated the Motor Vehicle Testing Center (VMTC) and VCT Service Joint Stock Company to conduct testing for child safety equipment. This testing must comply with the QCVN 123:2024/BGTVT standard.

Under new quality management rules, child safety equipment is classified as a medium-risk product, necessitating mandatory certification and conformity declarations by accredited organizations to ensure compliance before entering the market.
