Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority urges airlines to expand domestic routes

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued a formal request to six domestic airlines—Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Pacific Airlines, Vietravel Airlines, Bamboo Airways, and Sun PhuQuoc Airways—to review and expand their domestic flight networks.

The CAAV has directed these carriers to evaluate current routes, research the restoration of suspended services, and increase flight frequencies on existing routes. A key priority is the development of new direct flights between provinces, particularly those connecting major economic and tourism hubs. This strategy aims to reduce reliance on major transit hubs, shorten travel times, and lower costs for passengers.

The initiative comes as Vietnam continues to invest in and modernize its airport infrastructure. By enhancing regional connectivity, the CAAV expects to stimulate local tourism, facilitate trade, and attract investment. Airlines are required to develop specific implementation plans and report back to the authority by November 10, 2026, for the 2026–2027 period.
