Vietnam coastal provinces alerted to potential storms and heavy rainfall

The National Civil Defense Steering Committee has issued an urgent directive to 21 coastal provinces and several ministries to prepare for multiple natural disaster threats expected over the next 10 days.

Meteorological forecasts indicate a tropical convergence zone will form in the South China Sea starting September 9, passing through Central Vietnam. There is a high probability that a tropical depression will form between September 12 and 13, which may subsequently intensify into a storm. Additionally, strong northeast winds and waves of 2–3 meters are expected in the northern Gulf of Tonkin.

From September 10 to 17, Central Vietnam is at high risk for widespread heavy rainfall, which may trigger flash floods, landslides, lightning, and localized flooding. Authorities have instructed local governments to monitor weather updates closely, guide maritime vessels to ensure safety, and maintain strict supervision of tourist boats and coastal activities to mitigate risks to lives and property.
