Vietnam coffee exports poised for growth amid sustainability demand

Vietnam's coffee exports are expected to accelerate in the final months of 2026, driven by rising demand for products that meet sustainability standards. According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), the country exported approximately 1.7 million tons of coffee during the first eight months of 2026, valued at over $6 billion. While export volume increased by more than 10% year-on-year, total revenue fell by 11.2% due to declining export prices.

The European Union and the United States remain the primary markets for Vietnamese coffee, though China is emerging as a significant growth hub. Vicofa anticipates an upward trend in coffee prices in the coming months, supported by factors such as delayed harvests in Brazil due to heavy rains, potential El Niño effects, and high temperatures and droughts in Asia. Low inventory levels are also expected to support higher prices.

A key opportunity lies in the upcoming implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on December 30, 2026. Vietnam is positioned to leverage this regulation by increasing exports of green coffee that meets EUDR criteria, as more than 30% of its coffee cultivation area is already certified for sustainable production.
