Vietnam cold front sparks heavy rain and dropping temps in the north

A cold air mass from the north has moved into northern Vietnam, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms and a rapid fall in temperatures. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that on May 7‑8 the northern provinces, including Hanoi, recorded rain ranging from moderate to very heavy, with some locations experiencing intense downpours, hail and strong winds. Temperatures fell to 21‑24 °C in the northeastern region and below 21 °C in mountainous areas.

The forecast indicates another cold surge around May 10, which will again produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across the north, the central provinces of Thanh Hoá and Huế, and parts of the north‑west. After this period, the weather is expected to shift to hotter, drier conditions later in the month, with temperatures climbing toward 37‑39 °C in some areas.
