Vietnam Parliament Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn pledges higher veteran benefits
On 19 July 2026, Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn visited the Long Đất care centre for war veterans and disabled veterans in Ho Chi Minh City. He presented gifts to severely injured veterans from 15 provinces and reiterated the state’s commitment to “drink water, remember the source” – the principle behind caring for those who fought for the revolution.
Mẫn announced that the government is preparing a revision of the decree on preferential treatment for people who contributed to the revolution. The draft will expand eligibility, raise subsidies and allowances for veterans, disabled persons and families of martyrs, and ensure their standard of living is at least equal to the average in their locality. The revised decree is targeted for implementation by the 80th anniversary of the Veterans‑Day commemoration in 2027.
He also highlighted macro‑economic results for the first half of 2026, noting an 8.18 % GDP growth and a 17.4 % rise in state budget revenue, underscoring the fiscal capacity to support the expanded benefits programme.
