Vietnam Communist Party adopts climate and environment action program

The Communist Party of Vietnam approved an action program on 28 July 2026, signed by Party Standing Committee member Trần Cẩm Tú, to implement Conclusion No. 75‑KL/TW of the 14th Party Central Committee. The program targets the period 2026‑2030 with a vision to 2045, aiming to protect the environment and proactively respond to climate change.

It sets out nine core tasks, including strengthening party leadership, improving legal and institutional frameworks, enhancing enforcement and monitoring, mobilising resources, addressing urgent environmental problems, preventing pollution, conserving biodiversity, developing a green, low‑carbon economy, and improving climate‑change adaptation. The plan also highlights specific projects such as reinforcing dikes in Cần Thơ to curb salt‑water intrusion, safeguard drinking water and stabilise agricultural production. Investment in environmental protection is framed as essential for sustainable economic growth and is linked to international cooperation and green‑technology development.
